Hobby, some sport activity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Hobby, some sport activity - Essay Example The most popular cricketer in the world at the present is Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar who has attained the attention of the Indian populace as they believe he is their God and hence they follow each and every move of his. The game is professionally played in a few countries, most important of which are Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, England, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, an amalgamation of Central American states by the cricketing name of West Indies and Zimbabwe. Many people play it as a hobby because it gives them satisfaction and the me-too feeling that they can copy actions of cricketers is an emotional attachment. Some play it because they can relate to the game while others just play because it is their favorite pastime. Then again, there are the young ones who play cricket in the form of online cricket games, while some manage cricket teams through video programs which essentially link them with this game in one way or the other. The game of cricket is a bat and ball game which is played at 11 a side (players on each team). The field is a circle which has a pitch (also called the wicket) measuring 22 yards from one end to another formed in a rectangular fashion. Each team takes its turn to bat a quota of certain overs and then the other team bats. When one team bats, the other one fields and vice versa (Quester 1998). There are two on field umpires who supervise a match at all times. There is also a third umpire who sits with the match referee who in turn oversee the match proceedings. The game of cricket is governed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) which has its headquarters in Dubai, the famous city of the United Arab Emirates. Formerly, it was based in London, the capital of the United Kingdom. The laws of cricket are taken care of by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) whereas there are Standard Playing Conditions for Test Matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 matches. Incidentally, these three forms of cric ket are the ones that are played by professionals all over the world, and especially in the countries mentioned above. Cricket is played both by men and women. The ICC takes care of both the men’s teams and the women’s teams that are put forward by the individual nations – all of which come under the auspices of the ICC. It is mandatory for all the member nations to comply with the rules and policies as laid down by the ICC so that there are proper standards which are in place as far as the playing conditions, doping issues and other factors are related (Level 1 Coaching Course 2013). Having a uniform set of rules means that the ICC has more control over the member nations and the game of cricket as a whole prospers as there is a parent body that has complete command and control regarding the sport. Cricket has always been historical in terms of its age and grandeur within England. It is due to this reason that its headquarters was in London until the 2000s. The English hold the rights for this sport mainly because they were the ones who started playing it for the first time. The first Test Match was played between England Australia back in the late 1880s. The first One Day International Match was played similarly between these two arch rivals in 1971 and the trend continued so on (Harrison 1999). Cricket has been able to make its mark just a single time –

The Nine Types of Intelligence Essay Example for Free

The Nine Types of Intelligence Essay 1. Naturalist Intelligence (â€Å"Nature Smart†) Designates the human ability to discriminate among living things (plants, animals) as well as sensitivity to other features of the natural world (clouds, rock configurations). This ability was clearly of value in our evolutionary past as hunters, gatherers, and farmers; it continues to be central in such roles as botanist or chef. It is also speculated that much of our consumer society exploits the naturalist intelligences, which can be mobilized in the discrimination among cars, sneakers, kinds of makeup, and the like. 2. Musical Intelligence (â€Å"Musical Smart†) Musical intelligence is the capacity to discern pitch, rhythm, timbre, and tone. This intelligence enables us to recognize, create, reproduce, and reflect on music, as demonstrated by composers, conductors, musicians, vocalist, and sensitive listeners. Interestingly, there is often an affective connection between music and the emotions; and mathematical and musical intelligences may share common thinking processes. Young adults with this kind of intelligence are usually singing or drumming to themselves. They are usually quite aware of sounds others may miss. 3. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence (Number/Reasoning Smart) Logical-mathematical intelligence is the ability to calculate, quantify, consider propositions and hypotheses, and carry out complete mathematical operations. It enables us to perceive relationships and connections and to use abstract, symbolic thought; sequential reasoning skills; and inductive and deductive thinking patterns. Logical intelligence is usually well developed in mathematicians, scientists, and detectives. Young adults with lots of logical intelligence are interested in patterns, categories, and relationships. They are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments. 4. Existential Intelligence Sensitivity and capacity to tackle deep questions about human existence, such as the meaning of life, why do we die, and how did we get here. 5. Interpersonal Intelligence (People Smart†) Interpersonal intelligence is the ability to understand and interact effectively with others. It involves effective verbal and nonverbal communication, the ability to note distinctions among others, sensitivity to the moods and temperaments of others, and the ability to entertain multiple perspectives. Teachers, social workers, actors, and politicians all exhibit interpersonal intelligence. Young adults with this kind of intelligence are leaders among their peers, are good at communicating, and seem to understand others’ feelings and motives. 6. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence (â€Å"Body Smart†) Bodily kinesthetic intelligence is the capacity to manipulate objects and use a variety of physical skills. This intelligence also involves a sense of timing and the perfection of skills through mind–body union. Athletes, dancers, surgeons, and craftspeople exhibit well-developed bodily kinesthetic intelligence. 7. Linguistic Intelligence (Word Smart) Linguistic intelligence is the ability to think in words and to use language to express and appreciate complex meanings. Linguistic intelligence allows us to understand the order and meaning of words and to apply meta-linguistic skills to reflect on our use of language. Linguistic intelligence is the most widely shared human competence and is evident in poets, novelists, journalists, and effective public speakers. Young adults with this kind of intelligence enjoy writing, reading, telling stories or doing crossword puzzles. 8. Intra-personal Intelligence (Self Smart†) Intra-personal intelligence is the capacity to understand oneself and one’s thoughts and feelings, and to use such knowledge in planning and directioning one’s life. Intra-personal intelligence involves not only an appreciation of the self, but also of the human condition. It is evident in psychologist, spiritual leaders, and philosophers. These young adults may be shy. They are very aware of their own feelings and are self-motivated. 9. Spatial Intelligence (â€Å"Picture Smart†) Spatial intelligence is the ability to think in three dimensions. Core capacities include mental imagery, spatial reasoning, image manipulation, graphic and artistic skills, and an active imagination. Sailors, pilots, sculptors, painters, and architects all exhibit spatial intelligence. Young adults with this kind of intelligence may be fascinated with mazes or jigsaw puzzles, or spend free time drawing or daydreaming. Three Aspects of Intelligence According to the triarchic theory, intelligence has three aspects: analytical, creative, and practical. Analytical intelligence. Analytical intelligence is involved when the components of intelligence are applied to analyze, evaluate, judge, or compare and contrast. It typically is involved in dealing with relatively familiar kinds of problems where the judgments to be made are of a fairly abstract nature. In one study, an attempt was made to identify the information-processing components used to solve analogies such as: A is to B as C is to: D1, D2, D3, D4 (e.g., lawyer is to client as doctor is to [a] nurse, [b] medicine, [c] patient, [d] MD). There is an encoding component, which is used to figure out what each word (e.g., lawyer) means, while the inference component is used to figure out the relation between lawyer and client. Research on the components of human intelligence has shown that although children generally become faster in information processing with age, not all components are executed more rapidly with age. The encoding component first shows a decrease in processing time with age, and then an increase. Apparently, older children realize that their best strategy is to spend more time in encoding the terms of a problem so that they later will be able to spend less time in making sense of these encodings. Similarly, better reasoners tend to spend relatively more time than do poorer reasoners in global, up-front metacomponential planning when they solve difficult reasoning problems. Poorer reasoners, on the other hand, tend to spend relatively more time in detailed planning as they proceed through a problem. Presumably, the better reasoners recognize that it is better to invest more time up front so as to be able to process a problem more efficiently later on. Creative intelligence. In work with creativeintelligence problems, Robert Sternberg and Todd Lubart asked sixty-three people to create various kinds of products in the realms of writing, art, advertising, and science. For example, in writing, they would be asked to write very short stories, for which the investigators would give them a choice of titles, such as Beyond the Edge or The Octopuss Sneakers. In art, the participants were asked to produce art compositions with titles such as The Beginning of Time or Earth from an Insects Point of View. Participants created two products in each domain. Sternberg and Lubart found that creativity is relatively, although not wholly, domain-specific. In other words, people are frequently creative in some domains, but not in others. They also found that correlations with conventional ability tests were modest to moderate, demonstrating that tests of creative intelligence measure skills that are largely different from those measured by conventional intelligence tests. Practical intelligence. Practical intelligence involves individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of problems that confront them in daily life, such as on the job or in the home. Much of the work of Sternberg and his colleagues on practical intelligence has centered on the concept of tacit knowledge. They have defined this construct as what one needs to know, which is often not even verbalized, in order to work effectively in an environment one has not been explicitly taught to work in–and that is often not even verbalized. Sternberg and colleagues have measured tacit knowledge using work-related problems one might encounter in a variety of jobs. In a typical tacit-knowledge problem, people are asked to read a story about a problem someone faces, and to then rate, for each statement in a set of statements, how adequate a solution the statement represents. For example, in a measure of tacit knowledge of sales, one of the problems deals with sales of photocopy machines. A relatively inexpensive machine is not moving out of the showroom and has become overstocked. The examinee is asked to rate the quality of various solutions for moving the particular model out of the showroom. Sternberg and his colleagues have found that practical intelligence, as embodied in tacit knowledge, increases with experience, but that it is how one profits, or learns, from experience, rather than experience per se, that results in increases in scores. Some people can work at a job for years and acquire relatively little tacit knowledge. Most importantly, although tests of tacit knowledge typically show no correlation with IQ tests, they predict job performance about as well as, and sometimes better than, IQ tests. In a study in Usenge, Kenya, Sternberg and colleagues were interested in school-age childrens ability to adapt to their indigenous environment. They devised a test of practical intelligence for adaptation to the environment that measured childrens informal tacit knowledge of natural herbal medicines that the villagers used to fight various types of infections. The researchers found generally negative correlations between the test of practical intelligence and tests of academic intelligence and school achievement. In other words, people in this context often emphasize practical knowledge at the expense of academic skills in their childrens development. In another study, analytical, creative, and practical tests were used to predict mental and physical health among Russian adults. Mental health was measured by widely used paper-and-pencil tests of depression and anxiety, while physical health was measured by self-report. The best predictor of mental and physical health was the practical-intelligence measure, with analytical intelligence being the second-best measure and creative intelligence being the third.

The Company Magners Cider Marketing Essay

The Company Magners Cider Marketing Essay Global logics can be explained as a process to determine globalisation with successive dimensions, each taken separately, and interpreted for telling patterns. The existence of global logics means that the company recognizes the need to find a appropriate response to address concern regarding globalisation. The nonattendance of global logics specifies that issues of globalisation are not correctly addressed. The understanding of these logics has been helpful to reduce the complexity to globalise a company(Jeannet n.d.). Magners cider has always fostered the mechanism of making the right product available to the people at the right place. In France people are inclined to drink for pleasure and less inclined to binge out, the French people consume slightly more alcohol than their neighbours Britain (also biggest consumers of magners cider), this is due to the fact that French like to have drinks during meals, and most French men do not find it smart to get drunk. 4/5th of the magners consumers under the age of 24 like to drink in the bar, only a tenth of customers choose magners over bar. It is also a fact that men are most likely to consume cider than women. Nevertheless, female would prefer to have cider in a garden or a part, cider is not considered as a drink they would have with food (Just-drinks 2010). Magners has catered the global customer needs and advantages of its products considering the segmental and geographical differences. The primary quality of the product is that its natural drink ma de from apples. This is great competitive benefit with a world full of food additives. Also the death rate in france is high these days, so people are considering switching to healthier drink options which can prove to be very advantageous for magners. Also cider has fewer calories than beer, which will make it appealing to health conscious people especially women(Keynote 2009). Thats why the company will make sure that Magners cider is shown with apples and served on ice in each advertisement. Magners will strengthen cider by showing it as a mixture of seventeen different types of apples. In short, the company wants to show the product as a traditional company with a great experience that manufactures a distinctive natural product. It is very essential to have an intense promotional campaign, because it is very difficult to maintain such promotion activities for a long time, so it is essential to have two levels of communication: Intense Communication during the launch phase to increase brand awareness Long term communication to have a presence in peoples mind (Appendix 2). 3.2 Global Competitor Logic When competition creates a compelling debate to practise globalisation, global competitor logic comes into play. In a few industries a company faces different set of competitors in different markets, point towards low competitor logic; same is the case of magners in france. The customary cider distilled in France was once not so popular because of negative image and declining sales, but it is essential to give emphasis to space for growth in the sector especially in the over the ice cider which magners is famous for; to support this declaration French brewer which was experiencing rapid decline in the beer market for 25 years has decided to enter cider market with its Apple frost drink and aiming to sell 25,000 bushels in its initial year of launch, this will be the main competitor in the over the ice cider market (Perkins n.d.). Also MDD (Marque de Distributeur) has largest cider market share of 41.5%, LoÃÆ' ¯c Raison has 22.5% and Ecusson and Autres has 10% each(Keynote 2010). 3.3 Global Regulatory Logic Alcohol consumption patterns and drinks preferences vary from country to country. All countries have different laws regarding consumption and minimum required for it. It can be said that global regulatory logic is high, because regulations differ from country to country and France has been very strict about its amendment. In France alcohol kills about 45,000 people and costs 17.6 thousand millions à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬ each year. In 2005, the parliament of France amended a law on alcohol advertisement called the Evin law, which was the result of consensus between public health specialists and consensus wine firm owner (Keynote 2011). This law allows using objective characteristics during promotion but bans any form of qualitative arguments. The manufacturers of wine will be able to use facts such as geographical area, explanation about colour and taste (Bremer n.d.) (Perkins n.d.). The deficiency of social problems in France due to alcohol is because drinking is very expensive in bars, so young people usually purchase very less from bars and then move to home. France has no intention to follow the path of its neighbour Britain when binge drinking is involved. Authorities have the power to strip the bar from its license, and people are advise carry DIY breath testing kits to verify themselves before driving. Alcopop (beverages including distilled alcohol) was heavily criticised and government taxed them out disagreement (EPHA 2007)(Hennessey Jeannet n.d.). 3.4 Global Information Logic Information acquirement by customers is very important factor for global marketing strategies, its a way how consumers scrutinize the environment, the different types of media they are exposed to and how much they are willing to travel to acquire certain information. Magners has always relied heavily on TV advertising, but in France there are legal consequences of promoting alcohol on television and is strictly forbidden. But magners has always invested heavily on marketing and advertising and will use other forms of effective advertising. Magners will focus on radio advertising, and other forms of outdoor advertising such billboards and bus stop advertisements. One should keep in mind alcohol promotion in France must transmit a moderate message(Bremer n.d.). These types of promotion are best way to highlight orchards orange through seasoned affected life style. Magners has a difficult task of overcoming cynical and hesitant audiences to communicate the right message of brand. Past p romotional campaigns have seen magners create outdoor implementations to influence natural apple proposition. Advertising has been central part of magners entry in the international market. Global information logic here is strong as magners as always relied on TV, radio, press, advert boards in all of the countries it operates (except TV in France)(Martin 2007). Marketing Strategies Target Group Primary target Group: Magners cider primary target group would be young singles aged between 18-34. They can be either male or female as its appealing to both. Secondary target group: All the people allowed consuming alcohol. Cider is a drink for all ages in England. This expression was also to be created in French market Our secondary target group are basically all the people, who are allowed to drink alcohol. Cider is a drink which is consumed by people of all ages in Great Britain. This image is meant to be created in the French market as well. Magners cider aims to sell the product all over France. But at an initial stage, the company would like to test the product in big cities like Rennes, Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Nizza and Grenoble. Also Magners is supporting English rugby teams, so magners want to do the same by selling cider in French rugby cities like Auvergne, Toulouse, Perpignan and Montpellier (Appendix 1). This report has scrutinized the global logics applicable for Magners Cider when entering the French market, it come across French market and people perceptions about the product. It can be said that clear magners cider has no real competition in France as there are no direct competitors for direct competition for over-ice bottled cider. It is important to note that attitude towards drinks is different in France, but still it has an image of being a traditional, old-fashioned drink which young consumers dont like to drink, however consumers have different perceptions for new drinks like ice cider. It is important to note that alcohol advertising is prohibited in France, and there are strict rules on these type of advertising, nevertheless magners will look into the past promotional strategies to overcome such barrier and catch the attention of the French people, relying on heavy advertising budget of outdoor advertising etc. Entering French cider market is a good decision as magners b rand image will help it to overcome its competitors (direct indirect) very easily.

How Young Goodman Brown Became Old Badman Brown Essay -- essays resear

Nathaniel Hawthorne was a nineteenth-century American writer of the Romantic Movement. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1804, he was one of those rare writers who drew critical acclaim during his lifetime. Hawthorne used Salem as a setting for most of his stories, such as The Scarlet Letter, The Blithedale Romance, and â€Å"Young Goodman Brown†. Today, readers still appreciate Hawthorne's work for its storytelling qualities and for the moral and theological questions it raises. Nathaniel Hawthorne's work is typically fraught with symbolism, much of it deriving from his Puritan ancestry; relatives of his were judges in the Salem witchcraft trials. â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† is an allegory whose characters play a major role in conveying the reoccurring theme of sin and retribution. The short story represents one man's journey to leave his faith, home, and security temporarily behind to take a walk with the devil into a dark forest.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The forest is a symbol of the test of strength, courage, and endurance. Aside from â€Å"Young Goodman Brown,† forests carrying a negative or challenging connotation have been featured in other stories. For example, in the folk tale The â€Å"Three Bears†, Goldilocks encounters the cottage of the three bears in a forest; in Hansel and Gretel, the children's father takes them off into the forest to abandon them and they have to find their way back out; in Red Riding Hood, the little girl has to travel through the forest to her grandmother's house. There has always been an association between forests and evil because of its dark and gloomy nature. The forest further goes on to represent evil in â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† because Faith asks Goodman Brown not to go into the forest on his mysterious errand. What is his errand? Hawthorne never says, but clearly Goodman Brown has planned for it. He knows that the aim of his journey is less than whole some, for he feels guilty at leaving Faith on such an errand (1264). Despite Faiths protest, Brown goes on his quest anyway. Thus, faith was not able to achieve the desired outcome. This means his faith tried least and got the least, for it was apparently weak. When faith is weak, not only it cannot control desires, but also it needs protection, for it could be lost at any time. That was what made faith beg Brown to put off his journey and stay with her th... ...expresses the theme of sin and retribution. Goodman Brown’s life was destroyed because of his inability to face this truth and live with it. The story, which may have been a dream, planted the seed of doubt in Brown's mind, which consequently cut him off from his fellow man and leaves him alone and depressed. His life ends alone and miserable because he was never able to look at himself and realize that what he believed were everyone else's faults were his as well. Hawthorne was a writer way ahead of his time. His stories have been a testament to the timeless nature of his style. Although written by a Puritan, many of his stories challenge all of that which is puritan. In its day, this story raised controversy because of the risquà © subject matter. Today, people can turn on the Disney channel and see adultery and satanic rituals. Society has been callused by the sands of time. Works Cited The Bible. 2nd ed. New York: Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1953. cloning Essay -- essays research papers

Since March 1997, the birth of a cloned sheep, named Dolly, has caused a great sensation around the world. The reason why Dolly shocked the world was that she was the first clone from a cell of an adult mammal: something scientists thought to be impossible. The cloning of a mammal cell meant that the possibility of cloning a human beings was increased. For fear human cloning, a lot of countries have taken necessary measures to regulate the study of it. We should ban human cloning because it has the possibility to reduce the value of human life: taking away individuality in our society. Richard Seed, a physicist who supports human cloning, said in a radio interview that he would open a clinic of human cloning for infertile people and make a big profit (Hotwired Japan). If human cloning were allowed there would be so many people just like Seed who would use cloning technology to make money. The business of operating the technology looks so profitable because there could be 100,000 or so women in the U.S. who would like a similar chance to use cloning to have their own babies. Essay of Philippine Government: Looking back to the previous government system in different periods in Philippine history, we can see that our present government system is somehow shaped and patterned from the previous system that prevailed in our country. Pre-historically we have seen how they established their government and basically, we can say that it is far more primitive than the present system that we have. However, the basic principles like the consultation of the datus to the elders can somehow be seen in the present by the presence of political advisers where our president consults aside from the members of senate and the congress. The barangay system that existed before still exist now as the smallest governmental unit in the society. The taxat ion system that evolved through time is still being practiced up to the present government. The three basic task of the executive, legislative and judiciary can also seen in the Spanish political system however there is separation of powers nowadays unlike before that all the power is bestowed to one-Government General.Numerous years of colonization experienced by the Philippines made it hungry for freedom which I believe contributed to the desire of the people to live in democracy and be a Democratic country. Then the first Republic of the Philippines emerged in as the Malolos constitution was made. Then there was the commonwealth and the Puppet government and the presence of those previous foreign governments somehow contributed by the ties that we now build with other countries.Until now we are continuing the ties that connect to the other countries, the thread that ties to them is actually helping us to developed more and more especially in economy. But except the ties that conn ect us to them, how does the Philippine Government evolved on its own feet? Philippine Government evolved through its lessons that we learn from the past colonization we learned how to stand independently to make our own constitution, to practice the suffrage, to be independent by the decision of the countries and learned also how to be more competitive. But we cannot deny that in every existing of the Philippine Government there are also existing rat people who are manipulating the constitution, corrupting the money and other things that making the government more complicated in existing to the better. Our government now is almost likely to a turtle yet still yet so far to finished the finish line. Just in our society there is a great chance to change more better but while rat people are still in their position in the government there would be no suddenly change will happen.
